A Word of Advice

A Tribute to a Beautiful Young Lady Named Kaylyn Brock

May 20, 2014

“Why? Why do bad things happen in this world?  Why?  Why do bad things happen to good people?  What did we do wrong to deserve such suffering and hardship?”

I know that these are questions that many ask often either to themselves, to clergy or even to God.  “Why, Lord did I get cancer at the age of 17 years old?  These are the years that I am supposed to have fun, be athletic and scholarly.  I’m supposed to be enjoying life, but I’ve had to lie up in the hospital for weeks and months receiving chemotherapy treatments and having people poke and prod me. “

I can imagine that these are some of the questions that my niece Kaylyn may have asked God when she was diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in November 2012.  Why her?  Why anyone?  One thing is for sure, when you know the truth, it will make you free.  Kaylyn was strong enough to know Truth and who Truth is.  Jesus is Truth and Grace.  He gave her His sufficient Grace to get through what has been one of the most traumatic experiences in our family.
In March of 2013, Kaylyn was pronounced to be in remission and completed her junior year of high school.  She went to prom with her big sister Taylor, bald head and all showing everyone how she was more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.  She went on to play volleyball in the fall and won the most outstanding player award, ran track, all while earning above a 4.2 GPA and a 28 on the ACT receiving acknowledgement for being in the top 3% among African Americans for the ACT.  That’s not all!  Kaylyn was accepted into the prestigious Elon University and has been accepted into their honors program.  (That’s a big deal!)  She has received $156,000 in scholarships, has won her high schools character award and two athletic awards.

Last month, I was able to attend her senior speech and in that speech she had to give a word of advice.  Her advice was to “keep your priorities in order because you don’t want to waste your time on things you won’t remember next year or even in a few months.  It’s important to focus on what really matters in your life like your beliefs, family and friends.  Life is precious and fragile, so be grateful for every moment.  Nothing can be guaranteed, and everything can change in a single moment.  You don’t want any regrets.”

What I took from this very wise advice was this:

1.       God and your family should be your main concern.  We only have a certain amount of time to impact our children and to help frame their beliefs.  We must raise up Godly, productive, gracious and influential children.

2.       Don’t focus on time wasters. Determine God’s plan for your life and live it to the fullest fulfilling your dreams, passions and desires.

3.       Know what you and in whom you believe and stick to it.  Don’t be ashamed of your God and Father.  Let the world see Him through your life.  Share Him with your friends and family as an act of pure love towards them.

4.       Live life in the now; in the moment.  Allow for God’s plan to unfold in your life.  Don’t sweat the small stuff and quit worrying.  God’s got it all under control.

5.       Thank God every day for your life.  Refrain from all complaints and recognize that God is good.

6.       Life is full of changes.  Learn to adjust and be flexible.

7.       With Jesus, you can live a guilt-free life; one without regrets and condemnation.

What wise words from a wise young lady!  What a walking miracle! Most doctor's write stage four cancer patients off! What an awesome God!  He turned her situation completely around and this Friday, May 23rd 2014, she will walk across the stage of Davidson Day School and graduate with honors.

Maybe you’re in a situation that needs divine intervention.  Maybe you know someone who is struggling and fighting for their life.  Let me encourage you.  Kaylyn is not the only one in whom God can heal and deliver; it’s not exclusive to her and our family.  Jesus died and shed blood so you can be made whole.  You don’t have to struggle or be sick.  God has made provision for deliverance of all of the bad things that can happen in life through Jesus.

Kaylyn may have had questions and may still have questions for God, but one thing is for sure, she has been turned into a force to be reckoned with on this earth and I can’t wait to see what God has for her in her future.

There is an answer to why.  If you want to know more about that check out my podcast and listen to the message, “The answer to why”.

I pray that you have been blessed and encouraged by this word.  The word of God can NEVER return void, it MUST accomplish what it was set out to do.  You are GREAT in God's eyes.  See yourself as He sees you, whole.

His Image Manifested - Women's Week

"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."  Genesis 3:15

"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there I neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." Galatians 3:27-29

In honor of Mother's Day, His Image Manifested has declared the week before as Women's Week.  This week is not only to honor mother's, but all women because women have been the target of this world's  adversary from the beginning.  We all know the story, right?  The serpent comes into the garden and has conversation with Eve in which she willfully engages in.  The enemy makes insinuations, inclinations, suggestions and lies to her about her Father in whom she and her husband fellowships with daily in the cool of the day in the garden.  Yet, she continues her "Pow Wows" with satan.

His aim was to steal, kill and destroy the relationship with her Father and to ultimately bring to them his demise.  This happens by speaking dark thoughts into your mind and hoping for you to take hold of them so that your mind and eyes can be darkened.  It also happens by using the natural realm to wreak havoc on your emotions and psyche thereby causing you to believe that you are in situations that you will never overcome.

Since the time in the garden, women have been under attack from multiple directions.  There is so much inequality that women have faced and still face at the hands of so many including government, free enterprise and religion.  Satan uses these structures and systems to keep women in the dark; away from truth.  The truth about what, you ask?  The truth about her worth, her power, her influence, her beauty, her self and her inheritance in Christ.

Women in America for the most part have been oppressed economically (wages and earning power), abuse (physically, economically and emotionally) and by alienation (being left to raise children alone). Women are demoralized in other areas of the world in ways that we in America can't even fathom.  The recent situation in Nigeria where the terrorist group kidnapped over 300 plus girls from a boarding school has infuriated me in such a way that I can see exactly the adversary's purpose and plans for women.  His purpose is to shut you down to the point that you have no positive thoughts and no light within and about yourself.  It is to literally take you down in the physical realm so that you are no good to anyone on an emotional or spiritual level.  It is meant to perpetuate curses and evil that have run through your bloodline for centuries all of which you have been freed from through the precious blood of Jesus.  It is to get you to pass on to the next generation poverty, pain, disdain, illegitimacy and worthlessness.

The statistics are staggering.  The fact is, women are targeted for misuse when they are children.  They are trafficked, sold, used, and abused. This is a big billion dollar business, even in America. See the stats here: Female Trafficking in America.  Not to mention how women are oppressed in religion, made to dress a certain way, unable to receive an education, told that their only purpose is to get married and serve their husbands and children like a slave.
The Terrorist who claims to be responsible for the girls abduction
Some sects in Christianity hold similar beliefs when it comes to oppressing women.  They can't wear this, or that; they can't preach in church; they are only useful in certain areas of the church.   This is not biblical, nor is it the way of Christ.  The scripture says that we are all ONE in Christ Jesus.  We are ALL heirs according to the promise. See Galatians 3:28.  For those of us who are in the Body of Christ, we must be challenged to release the women to do what God called them to do.  Women are just as gifted, talented and spiritually in tune as her male counterpart.  We are to be One in the Body.  Jesus even prayed to His Father "Make them one as You and I are One." No motivation should be to dominate but to love.  Our motivation for the world must be love.  "For God is love and everyone who loveth is born of God and knoweth God.  He that loveth not, knoweth not God, for God is love."  See 1 John 4. Keeping one under subjection, submission, and beneath is not motivated by love, therefore, those who operate in such ways don't know God.

The woman and the adversary were put in enmity with one another which means they immediately became enemies.  The serpent has been pulling out all of the stops to keep women oppressed, distressed, depressed, and suppressed for centuries.  The passage in Genesis 3 was speaking of Mary and Jesus. We must take from that passage that we must recognize, know and understand that Jesus's foot has already crushed the head of satan and that he lost when Jesus said "It is Finished" on the cross. Know your rightful place Queen's.  You have been translated out of darkness into His marvelous light.  Your name has  been changed and your spirit has been elevated to where Jesus sits, in the heavenly sphere above all principalities and powers and every name in the heavens and earth.  Come out of your depression.  Come out of your impoverished thought processes.  Come from among the oppressor.  Quit the conversations and the "Pow Wows" with the enemy.  Quit believing the lies.  Come into the Light of Life where there is love and acceptance in the Beloved.

I pray that you have been blessed and encouraged by this word.  The word of God can NEVER return void, it MUST accomplish what it was set out to do.  You are GREAT in God's eyes.  See yourself as He sees you and be delivered once and for all from people's opinion and actions.
